Description
The “Operation of a Drinking Water Distribution System” course was developed to provide water operators with a comprehensive understanding of how treated drinking water is conveyed safely and efficiently from the source to the consumer. Proper operation of distribution systems is critical to maintaining water quality, system reliability, regulatory compliance, and public health protection. This course was designed to familiarize operators with the infrastructure and operational principles of distribution networks, including pipes, pumps, valves, fittings, metering equipment, and monitoring points.

Course Content
After describing how water gets from its natural source to the consumer, the components of drinking water distribution systems are described in detail. These include the different types of pipes, pumping systems, fittings, air valves and traps. The parts of the connections, such as metering points and water quality monitoring points in the distribution system, are also described.
