Optoelectronics is a recent high technology branch of electronics. It includes the many applications of lasers, light emitting diodes (LEDs) and light activated diodes (LADs) - the basic components used in this field. You will also learn about components that do similar jobs in different ways. This lesson provides a survey of the field of optoelectronics. It discusses the basic theory of modern applications such as compact discs and bar code readers.
