Description
The course was developed to teach students the concepts of activated sludge treatment and the biological nitrification/denitrification process for activated sludge treatment.
Course Level
Intermediate thru Advanced
Course Content
* Numerous models have been developed over the past several years for the design and operation of the activated sludge process. The approach presented in this workshop uses treatability or plant operating data to define process operating and design parameters. These parameters employ kinetic relationships and mass balances to develop a process design or an operating strategy. * A unique feature of this workshop is the interaction between the instructors and the students in guided problem solving sessions. Therefore, all course participants should bring a calculator. * The technical content of the workshop comprises organic removal and biological nitrogen removal with emphasis on kinetic relationships, sludge production, oxygen, nutrients, and alkalinity requirements, and the effects of temperature and inhibition on activated sludge process performance.
Target Audience
Persons involved in the design and operation of activated sludge plants.
