Shielded Metal Arc Welding Techniques, Part 1: This unit will inform you of the types of equipment, materials, and procedures used in arc welding. It will concentrate on the electrodes, tools, and techniques used in welding carbon steel and will also help you to become familiar with thelanguage used in the welding industry. A number of hands-on welding tasks are also described in this study unit. Shielded Metal Arc Welding Techniques, Part 2: This unit will acquaint you with welding in the vertical, overhead, and horizontal positions. You will learn various joint designs, electrode types and sizes, and current settings used in these positions. You will also learn how to deposit fillet welds and learn about the differences between welding heavy plates and welding thin sheet metal. and it will prepare you to set up and practice welding in the more difficult welding positions.
