Description
Grinding is a machining operation in which material is removed from the workpiece by means of abrasives. In most grinding operations a totating abrasive wheel is used to remove the stock. In other related operations, abrasives in other forms such as coatings and loose grains are used for removing stock, cleaning and polishing, and removing burrs. Thus in order to understand grinding thoroughly and be able to do a good job at grinding, you must first develop a good understanding of abrasives. The purpose of this text is to provide you with a thorough knowledge of the basic principles of grinding and the other uses of abrasives in machine shop work.
