Description
After introductions the course will begin with a discussion of common acronyms, units, and constants used in the water and wastewater treatment field for chemical feed applications and hydraulics. Common treatment goals will then be discussed. Chemicals commonly used to meet water and wastewater treatment goals are broken down into classes or groups. Classes of chemicals covered include: oxidizers, sulfur compounds, alkalinity and pH control, metal salts, polymers, phosphates, and flouride compounds. Students will participate in an interactive exercise matching groups of chemical products to chemical treatment goals. An extended math review of the basic formulas used to calculate tank capacity, flow conversions, pounds formula, and determining chlorine dosage will follow the discussion on chemical feed applications. After the basic math review, demonstrations will be provided for setting up and calculating simple chemical dosages for liquid and dry products. Safety and material capability issues will also be mentioned and illustrated. The activities portion of the course will start with a set of progressively more difficult math problems focusing on chemical feed applications and hydraulics for the beginning to intermediate level operator. A series of review questions will be given to each student as a final assessment of the material covered during the course.
