Description
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has established several standards that cover the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the workplace. They include the following:
* 29 CFR 1910.132 General Requirements
* Workplace must be assessed to determine if hazards are present or are likely to be present that require PPE.
* If hazards are present, proper PPE most be selected for all affected employees. Employers must pay for PPE and make sure all employees use the PPE.
* All affected employees must be trained on the following topics:
* When PPE is necessary
* What types of PPE are necessary
* How to properly put on, take off, adjust and wear PPE.
* The limitations of PPE
* Proper care, maintenance, useful life and disposal of each type of
* Affected employees must show they understand and can properly use PPE before being allowed to perform work requiring its use.
* All training must be documented with written certification that contains the name of each employee trained, the date(s) of training and the subject of the training
