Description
Even operators with intermediate to advanced level skills may lack the understanding of why wastewater units and processes are not functioning properly. The course is intended to provide these operators with basic tools to investigate and troubleshoot performance problems. The course could be of extreme value to operators working at older wastewater treatment falicities where original or up-to-date design standards are not available. The primary focus of the class will be on continuous flow activated sludge treatment faclilities. However, some performance standards for fixed film media and sequential batch reactors (SBR's) will also be discussed. This course is intended to offer the intermediate to advanced level operator a challenging alternative to courses that are taught at the basic level.
Course Level
Basic thru Advanced
Course Content
*Proper Use of Design Flows and Per Cap Values *Design and Performance Standards of Settling Tanks and Sludge Thickening Units *Desing and Performance Standards for Aerobic Digesters and Aeration Basins *Miscellaneous Design and Performance Standards *Workgroup Case Studies *Summary and Comments on Workgroup Case Findings and Recommendations *Review and Final Assessment - Demonstrate Process Review Skills
Target Audience
The target audience is intermediate to advanced level wastewater treatment plant operators. Attendees must have an average or better understanding of basic wastewater treatment mathematics. Attendees should know how to use the pounds formula and how to calculate square footage and volumes for circular and rectangular tanks. Some engineers may also find the course to be of value.
