Description
This workshop is designed as an introduction to the analytical techniques and systems availible for water quality measurements in applications including drinking water, wastewater, environmental water, and industrial water. Analytical techniques covered in the course include colorimetry, electodchemistry, and turbidty. The course objectives will be met by presenting theory, incorporating practical applications of analytical techniques, and through "hands-on" experience with each testing parameter using portable field use and laboratory instruments. Students are required ro analyze water samples of known and unknown values. Since plant decisions are often based on the results of analytical testing, this course is applicable to both drinking water and wastewater operators.
Course Level
Basic thru Advanced
Course Content
Introduction to water testing - General overview of why, when, and how people test water, including information on sampling. * Presentation and demonstration about colorimetric testing (focusing on chlorine) followed by hands-on sample and standard analysis * Presentation and demonstration of PH techniques and calibration and sample analysis * Presentation and demonstration of low-level turbidity measurement and verification techniques, followed by hands-on calibration and low-level sample analysis using a portable turbidimeter
Target Audience
Members of the target audience include water and wastewater plant operators, lab analysts and managers, quality control supervisors, regulatory personnel, and, environmental protection staff - anyone who needs to perform or utilize the data from basic laboratory analyses.
