Defines and discusses Cryptosporidium. What it is, how to identify it, how to sample for it and understanding outbreaks of cryptosporidium.

Course Content
Basic biology of this organism will be presented along with its attributes for becoming a major waterborne contaminant. The history of the organism along with a discussion of major waterborne outbreaks and their treatment deficiencies will be discussed. Upon completion of this course, the participant will understand the basic biology and physiology of Cryptosporidium. The participant will become familiar with the ecology of this organism and what makes it an ideal waterborne pathogen. Several outbreaks of Cryptosporidium will be presented along with water treatment techniques for the removal and inactivation of this organism.
