Description
Class is designed to take an in-depth look into the operation and maintenance of anaerobic digesters. Topics include: process review, troubleshooting, raw sludge thickening, mixing system, recirculation piping, heating alternatives, caustic feed and cleaning tanks

1. Preliminary Treatment (grit and rag removal)
2. Sludge Thickening (systems/chemical addition)
3. Types of digestion systems: mesophilic, thermophilic, multiple stage
4. Digester start up
5. Proper care and feeding of your digester/trouble shooting
* grease & grit accumulation, volatile acids/bicarbonate alkalinity, gas production, tempreature, mixing
7. Cleaning your digester
8. Safety: purging in and out of service, confined space, lock out/tag out, gas monitoring, examplse of wors cases/ explosions
9. Proper disposal/management of digested sludge
* Class A & B sludges
11. Final Exam
