Description
This course is for operators that want to learn more about how the various operational tools can play their role in process control decisions. Tools are looked at in relation to the goal of all operators, that goal being to consisently and economically produce the best effluent possible.

Course Content
The course goes into the value of analytical tools, the importance of sampling procedure and the interpretation and application of the data. Visual observations and other physical observations are also discussed. Each operational tool and interpretation is identified and operators learn how to develop an operational strategy based on the data. The importance of record keeping is emphasized as well. The course also goes into cause and effect and troubleshooting and brings some new interpretations and thinking to the table. Solids control, oxygen manipulation and return rates are discussed. The activated sludge process variations and recommended ranges are identified. Tools discussed include: Visual observations, settleable solids, flow, microscope, nutrients, turbidity, toxicity and others.
