Description
Package” wastewater treatment plants are pre-manufactured facilities used to treat wastewater in small communities, on individual developments, or commercial properties. Wastewater package plants can be designed to treat flows as low as 10,000 GPD to as high as 500,000 GPD, although they more commonly treat flows between 100,000 GPD and 250,000 GPD (Metcalf and Eddy, 1991). The most common types of package plants are extended aeration plants, sequencing batch reactors, oxidation ditches, contact stabilization plants, rotating biological contactors, and physical/chemical processes (Metcalf and Eddy, 1991).

Course Content
This course will focus on the first three, all of which are biological aeration processes, and the most commonly used being extended aeration. The course will describe the various processes with advantages and disadvantages provide some illustrations on operations, and list typical design parameters for extended aeration, SBR’s, and Oxidation Ditches. And lastly, the course will illustrate construction considerations and installation aspects of a steel package plant.
