Description
New regulations focused on distribution have made in important for system operators to know and understand the components of that system. Proper sizing, operations, and maintenance of the valves, hydrants, and meters along with regular monitoring are essential to the quality of the water systems deliver to their customers. Water systems use hydrants to clean water lines and check water pressure. Street crews and construction workers may also use hydrants to fill cleaning equipment and tank trucks. No matter who uses the fire hydrants, the water system is responsible for servicing and repairing them. A well maintained hydrant could protect the health and safety of a community not only for fighting fires, but also for preventing cross-connections and contamination. Viable water systems also have a responsibility for generating revenue, so they must be sized, operated, and maintained correctly. Valves are the security of the system. Proper sizing, placement and exercising of all the system valves must be a system priority.
