Description
Water has the ability to dissolve (to a certain extent) many of the materials with which it comes in contact. Some materials are very soluble (such as table salt) and easily dissolved by water, and some are fairly insoluble (a plastic jar) and do not dissolve readily. The solubility of the contaminants in a water determine what treatment techniques are required and the quality and qunity of the finished water. An understanding of solubility will help us optimize water treatment. In this course, we will discuss some of the basic concepts of chemistry but the course is not designed for chemists nor is it designed to turn anyone into one.
