Description
Liquid water (or any other liquid for that matter) is said to seek its own level. Likewise, wawter tends to seek its own concentration. Diffusion is a natural process in which molecules try to equilibrate their concentration. If a barrier such as a membrane were to impede the flow of the salt, but not impede the flow of the water, the salt wouldn't be able to diffuse in the water so the water would have to flow into the salty solution to dilute it. This is osmosis. By forcing water overcome this natural tendency, we can actaully purify it.
