Description
Throughout the US there are about 888,000 miles of distrubution pipelines, which provide water for drinking. An additional 13,200 miles of new installations are added each year and approximately 4,400 miles are replaced annually. Very little is known about the physical, biological, and chemical activities that occur within these pipes.

Course Content
This course covers proper sampling and field-testing techniques for distribution system monitoring. Discussions will include the importance and measurement of flow, as well as grab, composite, and automated sampling. Techniques covered in the course will include the measurement of several common parameters relating to distribution systems such as disinfectant residual (chlorine or chloramines where applicable), pH, and conductivity. A short overview of data interpretation is included. Participants will also gain hands-on experience with various high range hypochlorite and chlorine titrations as they apply to line disinfection.
