Description
The Federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) provides a comprehensive framework for regulating the collection, treatment, storage, and distribution of potable water. Pa. DEP assumes primary enforcement responsibility under the Federal SDWA to assure the provision of safe drinking water by establishing drinking water standards and developing a State program to implement and enforce the standards. The Public Notification Rule is one of those standards with which all public water systems must comply.
The purpose of this course is to provide information regarding SDWA violations and situations that require public notification by noncommunity water systems (NCWSs). Information is also presented regarding the system that the EPA has devised to categorize violation/situations, based upon the degree of risk for adverse health effects to consumers.
