Description
The primary purpose of this course is to introduce participants to the concept of direct filtration, its similarities and differences to other treatment methods, and its practical applications. The course will provide the participant with useful information regarding continuous filtration and disinfection as treatment techniques for all surface waters, as regulated by EPA and DEP, for producing safe and aesthetically pleasing drinking water.

* List treatment regulatory requirements * Describe characteristics of appropriate source water * Identify components of typical process flow and how they work * Differentiate between pretreatment and treatment * Explain the necessity to pretreat source water prior to filtration * Provide purpose of rapid mixing versus slow mixing in pretreatment process * List and compare the different media filter types * Describe criteria for filter performance and water quality * Assess differnce between normal and abnormal operations *keeping and types of records necessary
