Description
This course is designed to educate laboratories on the uses of Microsoft Excel and Word in the Wastewater and Drinking Water Laboratory. The content will specifically address some common Quality Control Calculation requirements as required by DEP’s Bureau of Labs in the Laboratory Accreditation Regulations (Chapter 252). Attendees will be exposed to the calculations, then perform them on their own on computers in a small group setting. They will walk away with a better understanding of how to utilize computer program tools to assist them in doing their job. Attendees will also be exposed to cutting edge industry tools (in addition to Word and Excel) which will assist them in doing their job better: BioWin, Operator 10 and some of HACH’s portable analysis devices.

* Introduction to Excel: Basic review of how to create calculations in Excel using formulas.
* BOD Calculator: How to set up an Excel Spreadsheet to calculate your BOD Quality Control and Sample Data: Broad Quality Control Calculations, How to use Excel to calculate Percent Recoveries on Quality Control Samples, How to use Excel to calculate Relative Percent Difference on Quality Control Samples.
* Charts and Graphs: How to use Excel to graphically chart results over a period of time to illustrate trending (i.e.: TSS sample results for a whole month)
* Cutting edge technology to enhance a Wastewater and Drinking Water Lab: BioWin, Operator 10, HACH Equipment Demonstration
* Instruction on how to use Microsoft Word Formatting Tools for easy Standard Operating Procedure creation.
