Description
In the wastewater industry, samples are routinely analyzed for a variety of types of solids. In this course, various types of solids will be defined, their inter-relationships delineated, and procedures for determining each will be presented. The types of solids discussed are total solids, total volatile solids, total fixed solids, total suspended solids, volatile suspended solids, fixed suspended solids, total dissolved solids, and settleable solids. Proper sample collection, preservation techniques, and holding times are presented. Step-by-step analytical procedures based on approved regulatory methods are given. The equipment and apparatus necessary for each procedure are listed, and the pertinent mathematical calculations are explained and demonstrated. Real-life troubleshooting situations, and the subsequent corrective actions, are described.

Course Content
* understand how my solid samples are run by the lab * I learned that the solids analysis may be the most frequently performed test at a wastewater treatment plant,pH samples may be collected in polyethylene or glass containers and there is no preservation method and sample must be analyzed within 15 minutes of collection and the amperometric titration method is the most accurate. * good course, explains the difference and between the different types of solids, how they are measured and processed and the formulas for determining their concentrations. * Did not ever consider fixed solids before. Learned of mineral interferrence in disolved solids test. That temps over 575 degrees can melt the filters. I don't know. We do most of this every day at my Job. But it is a very good refresher. * Comprehensive discussion of solids testing * Excellent course work, one of the most useful tools in the operation of WWTP
