Description
Pennsylvania American Water (PAW) has a very active Labor / Management Training Committee (LMC), which is comprised of both hourly employees (Union & Non-Union) and supervisors. The LMC conducted a Job Skill Survey, which identified the need for training in advanced training and shoring. The Operational Risk Management Group and Training & Organizational Management partnered with the LMC to create this hands-on learning program. This safety training course was developed by 23-PAW-Subject Matter Experts (SME's) from within both labor and management. The course was designed to provide training in advanced trenching and shoring and will be implemented throughout Pennsylvania. Classroom Portion - Is designed to provide refresher and advanced training on the types of shoring systems available and how to properly select and install shoring equipment in accordance with OSHA and PAW standards. Field Exercise Portion - Given a scenario, each group will be required to successfully install shoring in the assigned trench, which meets OSHA and PAW standards.
