Description
The main purpose of this course is to teach operators how to safely start up, operate, shut down, and maintain disinfection facilities, with special emphasis on chlorination and dechlorination processes.

Course Content
* Explain the principles of wastewater disinfection and chlorine
* Control the chlorination process to obtain the desired effluent disinfection
* Handle chlorine safely
* Detect chlorine leaks and take appropriate corrective action
* Inspect new chlorination facililites for proper installation
* Schedule and conduct chlorination operation and maintenance duties
* Recognize factors that indicate the chlorination process is not performing properly, identify the sources of the problem and take corrective action
* Conduct their duties in a safe fashion
* Determine chlorine dosages
* Explain applications and limitations of uses of chlorine other than for disinfection
* Keep records of chlorination operation
* Safely operate and maintain a sulfur dioxide dechlorination system
