The main purpose of this course is to teach operators how to safely start up, operate, shut down and maintain trickling filters.

* Explain the principles of the trickling filter treatment process and the operation of the process * Inspect a new trickling filter for proper operation * Place a new filter into service * Schedule and safely conduct operation and maintenance duties * Sample influent and effluent, interpret lab results and make appropriate adjustments in treatment process * Recognize factors that indicate a trickling filter is not performing properly, identify the source of the problem and take corrective action * Develop an operating strategy for a trickling filter * Conduct their duties in a safe fashion * Identify the different types of trickling filters * Determine hydraulic and organic loadings on a trickling filter * Keep records for a trickling filter plant
