Description
Drinking water and wastewater facilities need to quickly recover from an emergency and often the rate of recovery is dependent on emergency planning done ahead of time. "Continuity of Operations Planning" involves assessing, both internally and externally, which staff, materials, procedures and equipment are absolutely necessary to keep the drinking water or wastewater system operating in the event of an emergency. This course will introduce students to this emergency planning concept. In addition, a case study will be presented on the 2010 PA snowstorms, along with the viewing of an AWWA emergency planning video. A group exercise will then be completed on a gas explosion scenario.
