Description
The Utility Technicians are required to move various totes and/or drums of water treatment chemicals as they are needed at the filter plant and the potable water plant. Movement of these chemicals requires the use of a forklift. In accordance with OSHA regulations, NOVA Chemicals provides comprehensive training on the safe operation of this equipment.

Course Content
At the conclusion of the demonstration, employees will: 1. Demonstrates a thorough and accurate pre-use inspection of the lift truck and know what to do if problems are identified. 2. Wears seat belt when operating lift truck as required by OSHA. 3. Operates truck controls correctly. 4. Slows down and sounds horn at intersections. Stops smoothly and completely when required. 5. Always has a clear direction of travel view, including driving in reverse when view is obstructed by load if traveling forward. 6. Turns corner correctly, paying close attention to the swing clearance of the fork truck. 7. Yields to all pedestrians. Has a clear understanding that pedestrians have the right of way and you must always yield to pedestrians. 8. Drives with skill and control, always using the proper traffic patterns and fork truck aisle ways. 9. Positions forks all the way under load before lifting.
