Description
This course is designed to improve the understanding of basic laboratory skills and procedures used in water treatment plants. General information on laboratory safety, practices and testing protocols including sampling guidelines is presented. Analytical techniques covered include temperature, pH, alkalinity, hardness, colorimetry (for chlorine and fluoride testing), turbidity, and coagulation/flocculation (including jar testing). Course objectives will be met by presenting background/theory, incorporating practical applications of analytical testing, and through “hands-on” experience using portable field use and laboratory instruments. Students are required to analyze water samples of known and unknown values.
