Description
Train Operators to independently operate Cl2 or SO2 processes (new operators will have additional OJT and OP OJT will be conducted at least every 3 years). Train employees that perform more process maintenance on the hazards. Meet Hazwoper 1st Responder Awareness Level training requirements.

Course Content
1. Risk Management Program (RMP) Overview - Employee participation, contractor entry control and an overview of all PSM program elements
2. Hazardous Substances Properties and Hazards - MSDS, thresholds, PPE
3. Emergency Response Alarms and Notification - Type and meaning of alarms and other emergency notification methods.
4. Response to Emergency Alarms - Emergency evacuation procedures, gather points, and head counts.
5. Cl2 Processes and Chemistry - PFD and chemistry review.
6. Cl2 Equipment and Alarms - Principles of operation, safety systems, alarms, operating limits, and upset conditions.
7. Operating Procedures - Review procedures for all phases of operation (Not needed for those doing only maintenance).
8. Safe Work Practices – Overview of safe work practices (e.g., hot work, line opening and confined space entry).
Target Audience
New water or wastewater treatment operators who operate gaseous chlorine disinfection (and/or sulfur dioxide dechlorination) systems. Refresher training for experienced operators.
