Description
Protection of water quality for water and wastewater systems is a significant challenge with the rapid growth of the shale gas industry. Water resource management alternatives for shale gas development has developed rapidly in response to changing regulations. Regulatory changes and the desire for regulatory sustainable solutions have resulted in new industry best management practices. An understanding of legacy best practices, regulatory constraints and drivers, and industry demand for innovative solutions has created new opportunities for managing generated water from shale gas development activities. Water and wastewater systems need to be aware of both the historic and current practices by this industry as it relates to water quality and source water protection.
