Description
This workshop is designed as an in-depth exploration of the theory and techniques involved with colorimetric analysis. Techniques covered in the course include colorimetric measurement, accuracy verification using standard solutions, verification using standard additions methods, and precision determination. The actual colorimetric parameters covered in the class may vary. The course objectives will be met by presenting theory, incorporating practical applications of analytical techniques, and through hands-on experience with each testing parameter. Students are required to analyze water samples of known and unknown values.
Course Level
Basic thru Advanced
Course Content
*Road to Water Testing - General overview of why, when, and how people test water, including information on sampling.
* Presentation on the theory and techniques involved in colorimetric analysis, laboratory exercises for the rest of the day, running and verifying parameters typical of drinking water analysis
*on Colorimetric Analysis - Sample measurement using a variety of chemistries, instrument and chemistry verification using primary and secondary standards.
* Presentation (precision/MDL theory, calculations and techniques), demonstrations, and determination of precision and MDL for iron analysis.
Target Audience
Members of the target audience include water and wastewater plant operators, lab analysts and managers, quality control supervisors, regulatory personnel, and environmental protection staff - anyone who needs to perform or utilize the data from basic laboratory colorimetric analyses.
