Description
Hypochlorites - sodium and calcium - are the most common form of disinfection used in water treatment. This workshop focuses on the properties, use, and feed equipment needed when disinfecting with hypochlorites. Students will be introduced to the uses and properties of hypochlorites, chemical handling, regulatory requirements, and feed equipment. Various mathematics principles will be addressed throughout the workshop including changing % concentrations, dosage/feed rates, chlorine demand/dose, and ct calculations. The purpose of this workshop is to provide students with the necessary study material for the nongaseous hypochlorite (subclass 12) certification examination.

• Unit 1 discusses basic hypochlorite information and basic properties of hypochlorite • Unit 2 discusses storage and handling of hypochlorite in addition to safety considerations • Unit 3 begins with Basic Math principles, moves to an introduction to unit cancellation, changing % Concentrations, dosage/feed rate, chlorine demand/dose calculations and CT Calculations • Unit 4 discusses regulatory requirements, chlorination terminology and feed equipment and maintenance • Review questions complete the workshop

Water treatment personnel and operators who are preparing to take subclass 12 - non-gaseous chemical disinfection certification examination.
