Water and Wastewater Safety, Health, and Security will provide students with an introduction to Safety, Health, and Security procedures to address the hazards and risks associated with operating and maintaining water and wastewater systems. Students will learn about industry accepted safety practices to provide the workforce a safe working environment. Identify and predict hazards in the work environment. Learn the proper use of personal protective equipment to mitigate the risks and hazards associated with operating and maintaining treatment plants, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems. Students will learn about the biological and chemical hazards associated with operating plants. Students will be introduced to security and emergency preparedness and the importance of coordinating activities with other agencies.

Basic thru Intermediate

1. Describe and discuss successful safety and health programs 2. Identify and predict hazards 3. Describe safety and health programs in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities 4. Describe safety and health programs in the operation and maintenance of water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems. 5. Describe the safe operation of commercial and powered industrial vehicles 6. Describe the biological and chemical hazards and the programs and procedures to mitigate those risks. 7. Describe accepted practices for the safe handling of hazardous materials. 8. Describe and understand the use of personal protective equipment in the industry 9. Understand the importance of coordination with other agencies and officials 10. Describe security and emergency preparedness procedures.

This course is designed for those entering the water or wastewater industries.
