Description
The goal of nutrient removal is to provide operators/managers a basic understanding of the nitrogen and phosphorus cycles as they relate to wastewater treatment. This course will discuss the interactions of dissolved oxygen, temperature and alkalinity and how they affect biological nutrient removal. This course will evaluate the design requirements and modifications to existing types of activated sludge treatment plants required to consistently meet effluent requirements. The design requirements and optimization of anoxic zones and anaerobic zones will be discussed. This course will discuss phosphorous removal through chemical addition. Additionally, the use of magnetite ballasted floc processes will be covered.
