Description
This workbook is for a one-day workshop designed to lead the learner
through a logical step-by-step design of typical instrumentation and
process control systems found in water and wastewater operations. At
the end of the workshop the Water and Wastewater facility
“knowledge workers” will be able to create basic instrumentation and
process control design for various water and wastewater plant
systems. Thus a basic knowledge and understanding of
instrumentation and process control will be attained by the learner’s
participation in the design process.
Course Level
Basic thru Intermediate
Course Content
Lesson 1:
• Define the terms Instrumentation and Process Control
• Explain the importance of Instrumentation and Process Control
• Explain the relevance of Instrumentation and Process Control to the
Water and Wastewater “knowledge worker.”
Lesson 2:
• Name the elements of a simple control system
• Explain the purpose of each element in a simple control system
• Explain the concept of feedback and its importance
• Explain the concept of Multi-tasking
Lesson 3:
• Recognize two types of inputs & two types of outputs
• List various inputs by functional category
• Explain the functions and purpose of the two types of outputs & list
types of equipment connected to outputs of a system
Lesson 4:
• List typical processes found in water and wastewater treatment,
storage and delivery
• Describe typical process control strategies for the processes found in
water and wastewater treatment, storage and delivery
Lesson 5:
• List inputs and outputs for the processes identified in Lesson four
