Description
This course was developed to enhance the knowledge and troubleshooting skills of the veteran electrician, as well as the less experienced multi-skilled worker. The course is ideal for a cross training tool for non-electricians in their attempts to troubleshoot and repair motor controls and other common electrical problems.

Day 1:
Introduction to Industrial Electricity; Tesla, Edison, Steinmetz.
Basic Electrical Theory Review
Electrical terminology
Alternating Current vs Direct Current
Single phase and three phase power distribution systems
Introduction to Electrical Safety; Hazards, PPE, Lockout/Tagout, National Electrical Code.
Ohm’s law and Kirchoff’s laws
Hands-on exercises; series, parallel and combination circuits wired, tested, and Ohm’s law calculations
Day 2:
Hands-on exercises continued; proper wiring and testing methods for various circuit components
Exercise interpreting wave forms
Electrical protective devices
Overview of electrical drawings and symbols, single line drawings and ladder diagrams, hands-on written exercise.
Explanation of the two primary control modes
AC motor controls; written exercise.
Wiring and troubleshooting motor control circuits
Hands-on wiring and troubleshooting of circuits exercises.
