Description
Provide water and wastewater operators training on general vehicle safety information designed to heighten awareness and minimize the risk of involvement in a vehicular accident. Topics include defensive driving and you, making good choices, driving safely as a state of mind, hazards outside your control, and vehicle protection systems.

Course Content
• Define defensive driving and risk
• Identify major types of driving hazards
• Recognize the relationship between collisions and violations of the law
• Make good choices regarding speed, avoiding aggressive drivers, and increasing the safety cushion
• Know how to negotiate intersections and demonstrate knowledge of right-of-way rules
• Identify and act to avoid the dangers related to driving when impaired in mind or body
• Recognize how to deal with hazards outside one’s control, such as weather, specialized vehicles, pedestrians, etc.
• Understand the basics of the vehicle and various common vehicle protection systems
• Know how to properly use the vehicle’s safety equipment and handle vehicle system failures
• Demonstrate the methods needed to avoid collisions and pass safely.
