Description
Provides water and wastewater operators training on respiratory hazards, protection mechanisms, safe work practices, and use of respiratory protection against hazardous airborne contaminants in the work environment. Topics include employer and employee responsibilities; the nature, extend, and effects of respiratory hazards; the operation, limitations, and capabilities of respirators; and respirator selection, use, inspection, maintenance, cleaning, storage, and malfunctions. This course covers primarily OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910 Subpart I.

• Specify why respirator protection is necessary.
• Identify employer and employee responsibilities for respiratory protection.
• Identify the nature, extent, and effects of some common respiratory hazards that you may be exposed to.
• Identify the operation, limitations, and capabilities of respirators.
• Identify respirator selection procedures and practices.
• Specify proper respirator use and inspection practices.
• Recognize proper respirator maintenance, cleaning, and storage practices.
• Recognize respirator malfunction and follow-up procedures.
