Description
Generations before us worked hard to ensure the life giving services of the water industry. The monumental investment supported our Nation’s health, economic expansion and growth. Sadly, our water infrastructure is old and it is getting harder to maintain long-term viability while recognizing that increased rates are a major concern for customers and political leaders.
This workshop is intended to improve understanding of the water and wastewater industry. Topics to be discussed include the historical, statistical and regulatory aspects which built the industry. Additionally, attendees will gain a better understanding of water and wastewater (sanitary and storm) treatment – from source to tap and collection to discharge. To continue our tradition of excellence, we will discuss planning strategies which can be used to maintain the strength of the industry.
The Society of Civil Engineers believes that, if we do not do something now, all of the advancements and environmental protection we have achieved, will soon be lost. The task we have is to determine how to move ahead so our children can inherit viable systems. Therefore, in this course, we will first discuss why our grandparents worked so our, gain a full understanding of our systems and set goals to bring our systems back because success is our only option.
