The Partnership for Safe Water is a voluntary process to assist water suppliers in identifying performance limiting factors in operations, maintenance, and management. This course focuses on the Phase III Self-Assessment portion of the Distribution System Optimization Program and awards CEUs to operators that participate in this process and complete the final quiz. Under the guidance of PA Section AWWA PfSW representatives, participants will conduct an assessment of their operations, identify performance limiting factors, develop an improvement plan, and prepare a summary report. The report will be submitted to the National AWWA Program Effectiveness and Assessment Committee (PEAC) for a review. PA DEP staff will participate during this review process. When Phase III is awarded, a PA Section AWWA PfSW representative will administer the Phase III Quiz for CEUs. If the participant gets a passing score of 70%, CEUs will be awarded. Retesting is not allowed for participants that do not receive a passing score. The exam will be administered once per utility upon successful completion of the Phase III process.

Advanced

Assess system performance relative to system integrity performance indicators related to water quality preservation, hydraulic reliability, and physical security. Examine system design, operational concepts, and administrative support of a system by utilizing performance improvement variables including, but not limited to disinfectant byproducts, storage facility operation and maintenance, a water quality sampling an response. Develop an improvement plan based on results of assessment, including the prioritization of performance limiting factors, as well as construction of a plan to improve performance.
