Description
The purpose of the course is to provide accelerated training to the operations staff of an SBR wastewater treatment facility. The ethical duties and responsibilities of a certified operator are addressed in this course. Also, this course will provide a good understanding of the activated sludge process including aeration systems, new facility start-up procedures, influent head works, seeding, process control strategies, typical operational problems, microbiology, UV Disinfection O/M, hydraulics, calculations, chemical dosages, chlorine disinfection and BNR. The class will give operators a better understanding of what to do during an operational upset so they can react quicker and recover faster so that the NPDES permit is not violated. By the end of the course, participants will have a great understanding of the activated sludge process.

•Review manufacturers startup procedures •Explain ethical duties and responsibilities •Understand the head works equipment O&M •Review influent pump station O&M •Operate SBR components •Describe disinfection O&M •Discuss the importance of facility safety •Work through equipment startup failures •Demonstrate proper sample collection and testing techniques •Understand spreadsheets and accurate data collection •Instruct on the proper use of lab equipment •Demonstrate how to properly calculate formulas. ie as SVI, wasting rates & etc •Discuss oxic and anoxic conditions for BNR •Understand graphing assists in diagnosing problems. ie DO & pH trending & DOB •Discuss sludge wasting effects process control. ie settled solids & MLSS •Demonstrate the proper use of a microscope •Discuss proper process control promotes good effluent •Assisted with storm flow management •Discuss sludge management •Discuss chemical addition & dosages •Discuss influent loading of side streams
