Description
Disinfection of water and wastewater has been practiced for decades. Proven technology utilizing chlorination has resulted in significant reduction of water-borne illness. But, increasing regulations and customer expectations for better quality drinking water and decreased environmental impact from wastewater treatment has forced utilities to look for more advanced disinfection technologies that not only disinfect, but also minimize some of the byproducts of chlorination. This class reviews chlorination basics utilizing gas, solid and liquid and then covers alternatives, including chlorine dioxide, chloramination and peracetic acid technologies. Advantages and disadvantages of each are covered.
