Description
The American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) Course is a course designed to meet all requirements of the American Heart Association (AHA) to educate and train lay rescuers how to respond to medical emergencies through early activation of “911” systems and the use of first aid. Through lecture and hands-on training, this course prepares lay rescuers to effectively and safely respond to a person suffering from cardiac and respiratory arrest and other medical emergencies. Participants are taught how to recognize signs and symptoms of adult cardiopulmonary arrest, medical and traumatic emergencies.

Course Content
The FA/CPR/AED Course is designed to comply with the AHA standards to teach the basic techniques of adult CPR. The course teaches how to recognize the signs of major emergencies including heart attack, stroke, and cardiac arrest and choking. Each student will have ample opportunity to use a training mannequin for group practice of CPR skills. In addition, the CPR portion of the course is based on current AHA guidelines and addresses: • Scene survey • Patient assessment • CPR scenarios • Cardiac chain of survival • Infection control • AED use
