Description
The purpose of the proposed course is to convey to class participants a fundamental, general working knowledge of the need, regulatory requirements, and technical descriptions of several wastewater treatment processes. This course is also designed to serve as a prerequisite for additional, more technically detailed wastewater treatment training courses currently being developed by the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science & Technology (CPI) as part of CPI's Water Quality Management Technology training program.

* The varying wastewater treatment plant operator roles and reponsibilities
* Wastewater yypes (domestic, industrial)
* Wastewater content characteristics: inorganic/ organic solids, microorganisms, dissolved oxygen etc
* Wastewater environmental impacts.
* Relevant State & Federal regulations including the history, implementation, and effectiveness of the Clean Water Act
*Fundamentals of Preliminary, Primary, Secondary treatment
*Overview of Tertiary treatment and disinfection processes
Target Audience
The proposed training course is intended for current and aspiring wastewater facility operators who wish to expand their experience working with, and/ or knowledge of, the history, requirements and processes of the wastewater treatment industry.
