Description
This course provides an overview of the activated sludge process, aeration systems, plant start-up procedures, process control strategies and typical operational problems encountered with the process. Activated sludge process control calculations will be addressed in the mathematics module of this course.

Course Content
• Activated Sludge I: an overview of the Activated Sludge process, aeration systems and new plant start-up procedures. Instruction on Activated sludge types, various factors that upset operations, aeration methods and system & equipment check procedures.
• Activated Sludge II: an overview of the Activated Sludge process control strategies, typical operational problems during the process and the microbiology of the Activated Sludge process. Includes tour.
• Activated Sludge Math: an overview of the basic rules for activated sludge treatment process and process control calculations.
Target Audience
New operators not yet certified and certified operators wanting to earn continuing education credit.
