Description
The purpose of the course is to present relevant concepts related to one of the most commonly installed type of water distribution and transmission mains; Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP). Despite DIP being so common, there are industry wide misunderstandings about its manufacturing, application, installation, and corrosion resistance and/or protection. The course will provide detailed information about the evolution of DIP, features, manufacturing, and the product design. Joint types, lining materials, hydraulics, life-cycle costs and expectations, thickness design, and laying conditions will be explained in great detail. Restraining forces and how to combat or protect against such forces will be detailed. Corrosion and Corrosion Control will be discussed including topics such as corrosion basics, soil corrosion, research, corrosion control methods, etc. Installation and tapping will also be detailed.
