Description
Through classroom sessions and practical fieldwork, this course will give the student the ability to safely respond to chlorine related emergencies. The student will identify safety measures necessary to operate effectively in an area exposed to chlorine. Subjects to be covered include site safety procedures, chemical specific toxicology, MSDS review, personal protective equipment selection, air-monitoring techniques and equipment selection, decontamination needs, incident management system, and integrated exercises.

Course Content
• The student will identify the presence of chlorine and its associated hazards. • The student will identify the toxicology issues associated with chlorine. • The student will don and doff the personal protective equipment necessary for the monitoring and control of the hazards associated with these chemical emergencies. • The student will identify the need for specialized resources and response teams. • The student will be able to perform atmospheric testing in an environment exposed to chlorine releases. • The student will operate within an incident management system. • The student will identify strategic goals and tactical objectives as they relate to the chlorine emergencies. • Acting as a member of a emergency service organization, the student will perform site management and control activities during simulated integrated exercises.
