Description
Arc Flash is electric current flowing through an air gap between conductors. This creates electrocution and burn hazards for electrical maintenance personnel. The purpose of this proposed class is to promote arc flash awareness and discuss and practice implementing the, procedures, techniques, signage, and Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) utilized to protect personnel from the dangers of arc flash. These procedures, techniques, signage, and PPE are documented in the relevant sections of the NFPA 70E - Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (2018).

Course Content
* Overview of relevant OSHA 29 (Code of Federal Regulation) 1910, subpart S regs and NFPA 70E Standard * Importance of electrical safety including accident statistics and impacts * Definition and description of the various types and effects of the specific electrical hazard, arc flash * Hierarchy of arc flash control strategies * Practice implementing safe and proper electrical maintenance methods/ techniques in terms of administrative controls, engineering controls, and PPE.
Target Audience
Operators, technicians, mechanics, and supervisory personnel working on or near electrical components/ systems located in water and wastewater treatment and pumping facilities.
