The purpose of this course is to provide an approximately 4 hour interactive instruction to assist Pennsylvania American Water supervisors manage safety effectively.

Justification • Moral / Legal / Financial (Incorporate PAW Life Saving Rules) What Makes an Effective Safety Program? 1. Management Commitment 2. Clear Written Programs 3. Applicable Training 4. Necessary Equipment 5. Employee Involvement / Buy-In 6. Continuous Auditing 7. Appropriate Corrective Actions 8. Continuous Improvement How Can I be an effective safety leader? 1. Safety Training (Stress importance of being an example) • Deliver Weekly Safety Talks o Preparation & Delivery (Set tone of importance) Exercise: Small groups - Prepare and deliver a 1 minute safety talk followed by a critique. • Actively Attend Training o OSHA 10 Hour General and/or Construction o First Aid/CPR o Other Applicable Topics (e.g. Workzone, Trenching, Ergonomics, NIMS, Confined Space, Defensive Driving, Process Safety Management, Electrical Safety, ERP Tabletops…) • Use the knowledge you learned and pass it on. 2.
