Description
Developed as a collaboration between USDA and EPA, the course supports rural and small water and wastewater systems in addressing unique challenges to provide sustainable services to their communities. The 10 key management areas of product quality, customer satisfaction, employee and leadership development, operational optimization, financial viability, operational resiliency, infrastructure stability, community sustainability and economic development, water resource adequacy, and stakeholder support and understanding are introduced, examined and discussed in detail by participants and facilitators. Participants conduct a short self-assessment of their operations in relation to the management areas. They also identify management improvement opportunities at their system based on their self assessment and come up with an action plan for their system.

This day long workshop (8:30 AM-3:30 PM) will help utilities address a full range of challenges and improve the management of their operations and infrastructure. ? How to deliver increasingly efficient, and higher quality services ? How to improve long-term sustainability and increase resiliency ? How to use the Rural and Small Systems Guidebook to Sustainable Utility Management to make improvements at your system Utilities will learn how to make improvements in the ten key management areas, focusing first on their most pressing challenges.
