Description
In this class, students will learn about wastewater collection systems in terms of design, construction, operation and maintenance. An overview of the different types of pumping stations, their components and the regulatory requirements will be covered. Additionally an overview of pumps and hydraulics as well as flow meters and how they pertain to wastewater treatment and collection systems will also be reviewed. This course is ideal for current and former licensed PA Wastewater Operators and those pursuing their wastewater treatment operator's license or those taking the Class E, Subclass 4 Certification Exam. This class provides Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) Continuing Education (CE) credit units for operators holding a current license.

Course Content
Introduction to Wastewater – The primary purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to basic concepts of wastewater collection and conveyance systems, wastewater treatment processes, the role of the treatment plant operator and the regulations that govern wastewater treatment plant operations and this section will focus on Units 2 and 4.
General Math – The primary purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the basic mathematical knowledge required to properly operate a wastewater treatment plant. Applied math for wastewater treatment plant operators will be instructed and practiced during this course. The fundamental of basic algebra will be reviewed. 3 hours
Pumps and Hydraulics – The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of pumps and basic hydraulics as they pertain to the wastewater conveyance and treatment process. This course will include instruction on pump types, applications and various flow regimes in the wastewater collection and treatment proc
